Louisville, Colorado Although formerly often overshadowed by nearby Boulder, in recent years Louisville has truly become known on its own merits. Both a Money Magazine and CNN winner of the best place to live in America, Louisville continues to make strides in gaining recognition on its own. Recently Conoco Phillips added to that by announcing that they had purchased the old Storage Tech facility with plans to create a training and research facility. What began as a town started by Italian mining immigrants, would soon be home to some of the most cutting edge technology in gas and oil exploration and energy development. The housing market has remained strong throughout the most recent downturn. Steady employments, excellent schools, proximity to recreation/outdoor activities and easy access to Denver and DIA have this little town leading the pack in terms of home values. Close to downtown are many of the original homes of the miners. Many have already been remodeled and updated while still retaining their original charm. Newer homes surround the Coal Creek Golf course and Harper Lake. The median home price is in the $300,000’s. Even in this soft market home sales have increased slightly over 2008. As listings are up, it is now taking a bit longer to get homes under contract. Louisville schools contribute to the strong demand for housing. The local schools are very well respected in the area. Louisville also has it’s own recreation center with indoor pool, weight area, classes and outdoor tennis courts. The downtown area has recently started having weekly concerts, a summertime farmer’s market and a variety of other community functions. Although not as large as some of the surrounding towns, Louisville is excellent about offering many of the same opportunities for it’s residents. |
