Boulder, Colorado Often referred to as “the People’s Republic of Boulder”, Boulderites strive to maintain their individuality and the community’s uniqueness. As home to the University of Colorado (CU), and several national science organizations, Boulder is also blessed with one of the highest levels of education per capita in the country. Altitude also plays a role in drawing folks to Boulder. Boulder serves as one of the top training grounds in the country for world class athletes. This interesting mix of people creates an environment that continues to encourage growth and personal challenge while enjoying life to the fullest. Housing in Boulder is affected by the desirability of living here. Home prices tend to be high with a median price in the $500,000’s. Condos and Townhomes have a median price in the $200,000’s. Because of the protected open space around Boulder, development is limited. A few newer developments exist around the outskirts, but most of the homes are of the pre-1970’s vintage. Another popular option is to scrape the existing home and rebuild. As prices have remained fairly strong in this market, market activity is determined by the number of listings and the number of sales. Year over year, the inventory is up somewhat while sales are down. Boulder’s many desirable aspects create a strong demand for housing. Boulder has a wide variety of schools – from preschools that teach Mandarin and Spanish to several Universities including CU and Naropa. By focusing on different types of learning and a variety of subjects, the local schools can provide a great learning environment for all types and ages of students. Recreation is one strong draw to Boulder. In addition to wonderful weather and miles of outdoor bike/walking trails, the city also has three recreation centers. These centers have a huge weight room, indoor pool, and a multitude of classes and programs. The Dairy Center for the Arts provides a home for the local dance and theater programs. There are groups of folks who gather for hiking, biking, nature walks, and almost any other activity one can name. The opportunity to learn and grow here is tremendous. |
